The Museum of Eroticism is a sex museum devoted to the erotic art collections of antique dealer Alain Plumey and French teacher Jo Khalifa. Founded in 1997, the museum is situated in the Pigalle district, a famous tourist attraction and well known for its sex shops lining the streets. The collection ranges from the ancient, religious art of India, Japan and Africa right up to contemporary art with an erotic focus. There are five floors, including a basement exhibition. One floor is devoted to the legal brothels of the 19th and early 20th century. On this floor the film “Polisson et Galipettes” is shown; the film is a collection of pornographic shorts formerly exhibited in French brothels. The upper two floors have revolving exhibitions, mainly of contemporary artists. The other two floors contain the museum’s collection of ancient artwork and religious artifacts from all over the world.
