Bois de Vincennes, or "Lungs of Paris" is massive expanse of green that offers plenty of space to stroll, bike, picnic, and boat. With four sizable lakes and a diverse zoo, Bois de Vincennes is close enough to the city to be easily accessible yet large enough to really make you feel like you are in the country. Originally a hunting preserve for the kings of France, it became a military exercise area after the French revolution, and was made to a public park and given to the city of Paris by Napoleon III in 1860.
