Located in the middle of the Neoclassical complex of Place Ile de la Beaute, looking out over the busy Port of Nice, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, also known as Notre-Dame du Port, is a grand and iconic structure. The grand columns of the church's facade provide shade on a hot day.
This ecclesiastical edifice was built between 1840 and 1853, though the grand columns were added no earlier than 1893. The church itself is lent an added grandeur by the way in which it fits so well into its surroundings. This is perhaps no wonder since the surrounding buildings were built at the same time. The church was declared an historic monument in 1991.
