Bastille Day is French Independence Day and marks the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789 when the French people stormed the Bastille in Paris. Today, the French celebrate this day in a similar manner to the way that Americans celebrating July 4th with traditional foods, fireworks, a military parade, and general merriment and festivities. If you are in town on this national holiday be sure to watch the fireworks displays, perhaps best seen from the Promenade des Anglais.
