Any travel plan to the Côte d’Azur shouldn’t miss the charm and beauty of elegant Nice. Among France’s cities, it’s second only to Paris in tourism, and a stroll along the Promenade des Anglais will remove any question of why. All across the city, the sun brings out the best of everything: fragrant flowers radiate color at the market in Cours Saleya, fountains splash and gurgle to the delight of on-looking café-sitters, and street vendors peddle socca, a tasty chickpea pancake.
Nice has a mild Mediterranean climate, which makes for pleasant temperatures year round, with
rainy winters and warm, dry summers. For the best mix of great weather and smaller crowds,
travelers should plan a visit in June or September—before or after the French holiday season,
when swarms of tourists from the north engulf the city. The beaches are a major draw, for the water is warm and the weather is next to perfect. But don't expect white sand between your toes; large pebbles cover much of Nice’s long stretch of coast. Finicky sunbathers will head to the private beaches that provide
chairs and changing rooms (for a hefty fee), while public beaches feature showers and access to
the same sea. Many artists have found inspiration in the beauty of Nice including painters such as Chagall and Matisse and their works can be found in the many museums throughout the city. Nice is a mediterranean paradise full of art, architecture, relaxation, fresh and flavorful cuisine, history, and a whole lot of beauty.
