History and a Pint

Pop in for a pint of Samuel Smith stout at this little English pub in central Soho. The place is named after a physician who traced the origin of an 1854 cholera outbreak to the water pump outside the building, and the pub retains that 19th century charm (cholera not included). A pink slab out front marks the location of the original pump. You’ll have to push your way up to the bar—the pub is popular with locals and is almost always full. The beer is cheap, but really good.
