Dulwich may sound like it has a boring history, but don't be fooled: this was the first art gallery built for the intention of being a public art gallery. Designed by Sir John Soane to be interlinked and skylit Dulwich first opened its doors in 1817. Today, it is revered for its collections by the Old Masters, as well as its collection of Baroque paintings. They also have an excellent array of British portraiture, spanning from the Tudor Era to the 1800s.
