Call on Carlyle

Many people have never heard the name Thomas Carlyle, but if you know anything about Charles Dickens or Charles Darwin, you know who Carlyle’s close friends were and some of his ways of thinking, as these two were highly influenced by the man who contributed his thoughts and ideas about people and history to the Victorian era. The house shows visitors what life was like in those times, and paints a detailed picture of the lives and personalities of Thomas and his wife Jane. It’s a small, beautifully decorated home in Chelsea, and it’s worth a short walk around the neighborhood before or after, as it’s in much the same condition as it was 150 years ago.
