Brick Lane is an area in Eastern London also known as "Banglatown", the heart of London's Bangladeshi community. The markets here date back to the 16th century when the area was a stop on the main eastern exit road from London. Although Brick Lane was once considered a poor area, it is now a small but diverse neighborhood famous for its galleries, curry restaurants, markets, specialty shops, annual festivals, and vibrant but relaxed nightlife. Each Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, local designers sell unique clothing and jewelry in the Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane. Down the block Vibe Bars beer garden boasts live music and an intimate atmosphere. Buildings doused in world famous graffiti surround Brick Lane, making even a stroll through the lane fascinating.
