I kan ikke os ihjel!

Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania, is a self-proclaimed self-governing area in Christianshavn. The residential district was created by squatters who took over a former military area in 1971.

It's an experimental society, barely tolerated by officialdom, but it's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the capital. Hippy entrepreneurs run shops (like recycling businesses and cafes), and live side by side with drug casualties who have found refuge in the area. Cannabis is tolerated and traded fairly openly, but hard drugs are frowned on.

Christiana is a place where you can see a colorful alternative society that manages to thrive, in the main, in the center of a modern city. The unofficial anthem is 'I kan ikke os ihjel', or 'You cannot kill us!'
