Though the museum was founded in 1885, the ornate, Neo-Renaissance building in which it is presently located, was built several years later. The museum’s vast collection includes applied and decorative arts, as well as design pieces, from throughout history. The permanent exhibition, titled “Stories of Materials,” tells the tale of the most popular aspects of decorative arts: graphic art and design, glass and ceramics, metal and wood objects, etc. Frankly the interior of the museum is a work of decorative art itself, full of stone staircases, vaulted ceilings and colorful walls.
