The town formerly known as St Willibrordus is a small community, boasting a striking 1888 church, and an enterprising, imaginative population. They re-branded themselves as 'Williwood', following the erection of an eye-catching white sign on a hillside, mimicking the famous Hollywood sign. The new name was officially adopted in 2011.
That fit of whimsy, maybe inspired by the Hollywood-like pretensions of some locals, has proved extremely useful to the settlement. Visitors are attracted by the joke and they buy Williwood inscribed T-shirts and other souvenirs, and drink at the local bars, to the economic benefit of the townspeople.
