This bridge is in complete contrast to the modest pedestrian floating pontoon of Queen Emma Bridge. Queen Juliana Bridge is a soaring four lane vehicular bridge across St Anna Bay, named after Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, Curacao's former colonial power.
After the collapse of a previous bridge, the current one was opened in 1974. Its structure towers 185 feet above the water, to accommodate tall ships passing underneath. It's the highest bridge in the Caribbean, with a panoramic view from the highest point.
It's really picturesque at night, when the colorful buildings of Punda are lit up. You can't walk over, though, it has to be a car trip.
