Curacao's Beginnings

Curacao Synagogue is a gorgeous place to visit to view glorious architectural details, a massive pipe organ, and beautiful pieces of art. But the real thing that you see at Curacao Synagogue is the history of the island itself.

The Dutch's hold on Curacao was fading in the mid-1650s when a number of Dutch Jews moved to the island to cultivate trade partnerships and revitalize its dying commerce. As time went on, Curacao became a blossoming center of Jewish life and culture, which can be seen in the Curacao Synagogue.
