Rector's Palace is an outstanding monument of secular architecture in Dubrovnik. The Palace has seen many disasters, from fires to multiple earthquakes to a gunpowder explosion nearby that damaged the entire structure, but it was always rebuilt and in a more impressive manner than ever before.
Rector's Palace is home to the history department of the Museum of Dubrovnik. You can see numerous portraits, paintings, coins, coats of arms, and important state documents that are on permanent exhibit. The original keys to the city gates are also on display.
