Erected in 1438, the Onofrio Fountain is located near Pile Gate and remains a major historic landmark of the city. Although the fountain was damaged by an earthquake that impaired its functionality, it remains a remarkable attraction nonetheless.
The fountain's immense dome features 16 water taps that delivered fresh water through their spouts. The fountain was linked to the aqueduct that was built to deliver fresh river water to the city's residents. Today, the structure is a popular meeting place for friends and tourists. It's also a much-loved symbol of the city.
