The Franciscan Monastery and Pharmacy dates back to 1234, though the current location dates to 1317. The Franciscan order was determined to take care of the sick brethren, and it did even more than that with its Pharmacy. It was designed and founded as the public pharmacy, taking care of the entire sick population of Dubrovnik. It is the third-oldest functioning pharmacy in the entire world.
In addition, the Monastery is home to one of the richest libraries in Croatia, famous all over the world for the value of its inventory.
