Once, long ago, this Balkan nation was described as the "Pearl of the Atlantic." Now an independent country, Croatia is proud of its pebble and sand beaches, with calm, clear waters and small villages. Kupari was once a resort for the senior military of the Croatian Army, and the hotel reflects the care that the former government took to treat them. Do understand, however, that most of the town is still a ruin, with most hotels shelled, burned or abandoned. With this grim background, though, you can still enjoy the beaches and restaurants in town. Some people even like to explore the Kupari Hotel and get a glimpse of this once luxurious resort now in ruins. Be careful, while this hotel is a historic landmark, it is not maintained and can be dangerous to walk through.
