Hong Kong is, of course, a land of islands and peninsulas, divided by bays and straights. They are as much a feature of the cityscape as the high-rise buildings. If you want to travel from one neighborhood to another, odds are that you'll have to cross the water. What better way than to take the Star Ferry? The service was established in 1888, but these ferry boats are modern and safe. Cross Victoria Harbour from downtown Hong Kong to Kowloon for a ridiculously small fee (soft drinks and little cakes included!). Don't worry about the schedules: the daytime runs are frequent. Best of all, you get a magnificent view of the city as you cross the harbor.
