Every large city on the sea has its favorite beach, and Shek O is where the people of Hong Kong love to go on warm weekends and holidays. Located on the southeast peninsula the of Hong Kong island, it's a relatively small sandy beach with barbeque areas and beachfront restaurants. The rocky cliffs (the Chinese name for the area is "Rocky Bay) offers cliff-climbers some challenges. If you're visiting Hong Kong and want some beach time, you may want to plan your time on Shek O when the crowds are not so large - that is, on weekdays. Also be aware that there is a steep underwater slope just offshore, so watch your step!
