Morning Ceremonies

When Hong Kong was returned to the People's Republic of China in 1997, the ceremony was held here, on this beautiful square (named for the ornate golden Bauhinia Orchid statue present) overlooking the Victoria Harbor. Ever since then, at 8:00 am, there is a flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the creation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. On the first day of each month, there is a special ceremony including the Police Pipe Band. On the second day of Chinese New Year's and the National Day of the People's Republic of China, there is also a grand fireworks display.
