An Island Back in Time

So many visitors to Hong Kong believe that the city is nothing but a series of towering buildings, block after block. Take a day off from central HK to visit Cheung Chau - "Long Island" - just a few miles southwest of the island. There're you'll find fishing villages that will evoke 19th century China, sandy beaches and seafood restaurants that will give you the taste of the South China Sea. The Pak Tai Temple, founded in 1783, sponsors the Cheung Chau Bun Festival, a week-long celebration held during the early days of the fourth lunar month. If you're fortunate enough to attend, you'll see Taoist ceremonies, music, parades with lion dances and great drumming exhibitions.
