Canada's First Nature Sanctuary

A mere 20 minutes away from Victoria proper, you'll find Thetis Lake Regional Park, Canada's first ever nature sanctuary, which was dedicated in 1958. A one-stop destination for all manner of nature lovers, the park has swamp, lake, and Garry oak ecosystems, a Douglas fir forest, and of course, freshwater lakes for swimming, fishing, and canoeing. The nature trails range in difficulty from moderate to challenging, and if you visit in the spring, the trails will be flanked by carpets of wildflowers. There are plenty of beaches and picnic areas to choose from, some near the parking areas and others hidden away in more secluded, natural areas.

Utrip Tips

*Watch out for the Thetis Lake Monster! Don't worry too much, though, it hasn't been seen since the 70s...
