Spectacular Art

Home to an impressive collection of artwork, The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria provides an entire day of enjoyable browsing through all kinds of fascinating exhibits. As you first approach this historic building, you'll get the feeling that great things are held inside. The Gallery is home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Japanese art in Canada, historical collections featuring Canadian and international works, and exceptional contemporary art, making it an exceptional stop on any travel plan. On permanent display is the work of British Columbia's foremost historical artist Emily Carr encompassing paintings, excerpts from her books and archival images offering an insightful look at this inspiring local artist who captured the BC landscape and the lives of its First Nations peoples in paint. In the Japanese garden, visitors can view the only authentic Shinto Shrine outside Japan. Come with friends, so you'll have someone to share the experience with because it is too wonderful to keep to yourself. Exhibitions change frequently, so you might call ahead if you want to know what's going to be there when you arrive.
