During the hot summer months, the idea of jumping into Victoria's Inner Harbour becomes more and more appealing. But don't fret, head west to the Sooke Potholes instead. This gorgeous outdoor recreation area offers relief from the heat with clear and safe swimming holes surrounded by lush BC forests and the Sooke River. Locals love to escape the city and jump in the cool water at the Sooke Potholes, yet few tourists know about this fun and relaxing getaway. So skip the Harbour and head to Sooke. Just a half hour drive from Victoria, a picturesque watery oasis awaits. Camping and hiking trails are also easily accessible.
*Locals love this spot so parking can be tricky. Either arrive early and park in the lot or be prepared to walk and park further up the road. If you park along the road, be sure to keep your tires off the pavement or you will be towed.
*Sooke Poholes Regional Park is opened year round but the weather is not optimal for swimming except in the summer
*There's no drinking water so bring your own and stay hydrated
*Camping only permitted in designated camping areas
*Pack a lunch for day trips
*Parking is $2 from May-September
