The Royal Theatre opened in 1913, and not much has changed in over 100 years, including the original Rococo and Renaissance Revival décor, which features ornate moldings, classic red walls, and gold leaf filigrees. The auditorium seats 1,416 people and has seen all manner of comedians, dance companies, popular music, orchestras, ballets, and other cultural events. As soon as you walk in the door, you know that when the red curtain goes up, no matter who will take the stage, you're in for an evening of entertainment in a setting that feels antique and yet timeless, ghosts of performances past whispering across the high, vaulted ceilings.
*Check their website to see if there's anything on while you're in town; the Royal Theatre hosts the ballet, symphony, and opera, so hopefully there will be something on while you're visiting.
