Located in an ancient (well, by some standards) brick building with rough hewn hardwood floors and exposed brick painted the color of fresh whole milk, Ca Va Bistro Moderne is comfortable and surprisingly affordable. Featuring fresh, organic produce and meats from local farms and gardens and freshly caught seafood, the dishes here are anything but mundane. In fact, you won't even want to eat at first, so lovely and artful are the plates stacked with medallions of meat, drizzles of sauce, smatterings of cheese, or walnuts, or cracked black pepper. Nothing is plain here when it comes to the food. Apples are caramelized, pumpkins are pureed, almonds are spiced, and pears are roasted in red wine. Seriously, this is good eating.
