The Takaya Tour company, owned and run by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (People of the Inlet), provides a lovely canoe or kayak experience in unbelievably beautiful surroundings, together with an introduction to the Coast Salish culture which pervades the area.
A two-hour guided canoe or kayak tour will start with a traditional welcome and continue with singing and the recounting of ancient legends as the tours progress. You paddle a replica traditional ocean-going canoe past wildlife, drinking in the scenic glories of the Burrard Inlet and Indian Arm as you go.
Groups need to book ahead for the tours. You can also book a multi-day canoe adventure with camping en route. Rainforest walking tours will appeal to landlubbers.
