Art Deco History

The Marine Building is a beautiful architectural wonder in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Its art deco style and design are meant to represent a giant crag rising out of the sea. It opened its doors in 1930, after being built in the Great Depression, and it was the tallest building in the British Empire at that time.

The Marine Building has been filmed numerous times. Fans of the show Smallwood will recognize it at the site of the Daily Planet. It's also appeared in the movies Timecop, Blade: Trinity, Fantastic Four and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surf. You'll enjoy a piece of film and Vancouver's history when you visit the Marine Building.
