Explore the Outdoors

Summer visitors to Vancouver often visit Kanaka Creek, conveniently located just one hour from the city. This tributary to the Fraser River offers family-friendly hiking trails, picnic sites and pretty waterfalls. Dogs are allowed in the area but must be kept on-leash at all times.

A plethora of wild birds occupy the vegetation surrounding Kanaka Creek, making it a superb place for bird watchers. Another interesting spot is the Bell-Irving Hatchery and the fish fence, where different types of salmon are bred all year round; the hatchery is open weekend afternoons, entrance is free and educational material is available.
