Founded in 1951 by Celia Franca, the National Ballet of Canada instantly established as Canada's premier unbiased ballet troupe. Franca was thus able to use her International connections to teach and perform full-length classic programs and performances not offered elsewhere at the time.
Since opening, the National Ballet has performed for 10 million people during their summer, fall, and winter seasons as well as their Nutcracker performances. Classic and original repertoire for ballet and opera consistently includes work by international masters as well as Canadian choreographers. Outreach programs are available to help future performers experience the wonders of an active life through dancing. Children between grades four and six across Canada are welcome to participate in classes and free workshops designed to keep their dreams on point.
