Fine Food, Old School

Walk into this shop in the heart of old Quebec City and you'll instantly know that you've gone back in time more than two centuries. It's not just the low ceilings and beams, or even the smell of spices and exotic foods that have become part of the very atmosphere of the shop, it's also the Old World service that will instantly take you back to the Victorian era when this French family established what is now the oldest grocery store in North America. For generations, the Moisan family has offered fine foods for the residents of the Haute Ville and Basse Ville in Quebec. Here you'll find cheeses, deli meats, prepared dishes (a great way to create your own deli lunch) and local micro brews. You can also find coffees, teas, soaps, oils and vinegar from local and imported brands. The prices are a little steep, but the experience of shopping in such a classic, historic shop may make you forget that you're paying a little extra for the opportunity.
