The Basilica of the Sacred Heart (also known as the Koekelberg Basilica) is an enormous Art Deco style church that ranks among the ten largest churches in the world. Entrance to the church is free but for €5, anyone can travel up to the panorama, a gallery below the dome, and witness exquisite views of the entire city. Originally, the church was to be built in a neo-Gothic style, but the plans were put on hold after WWI. In 1925 the construction was resumed but this time with a completely different Art Deco design. Construction of the church extended from 1903 all the way to 1969. Certainly one of Brussels most unique and exquisite churches, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is worth the trip.
