For a complete sensory experience, you can't go wrong with the Gare du Midi Market, arguably the largest outdoor market in Europe. Smell North African delicacies as they're being prepared in front of you, see a diverse array of vegetables and fruits fresh from the farm, and hear vendors yelling about all of this in Arabic, French, and Flemish as people swarm about. Prices here are low, and get lower as the day goes by, making it a great place to buy some souvenirs and a small meal to eat in the market or elsewhere. Be sure to bring a bag, camera, and an empty stomach—sampling is encouraged.
