How the Other Half Lived

This plantation house, restored after a fire in 1995, is kitted out with fittings and furniture redolent of its past glories. A guide shows visitors round and the exhibits give a vivid feel for one side of plantation life.

Looking around and imagining the luxury of times past, a lot of visitors feel that there's a massive piece missing from this picture. There's no information about the slave system that built and maintained the grand house and kept the family in such splendid style. It's a strange omission.

If you feel so inclined, however, there's a bar with outside seating. You can spend a pleasant hour or two here before hopping back into your other plans.
