Big Ben's Little Brother

The oldest church in Barbados, St James dates right back to the founding of the earliest settlement, then Jamestown, and later called Holetown. It's worth a wander round the graveyard to look at the dates and names on the old stones and memorial plaques. You can also take a guided tour to learn more about the eventful history of this little church.

The old bell was forged at the famous Whitechapel foundry that also produced Big Ben and the Liberty Bell, and it carries the inscription, 'God Bless King William 1696'.

The church itself is quite plain and simple with wood panels, and surrounded by mature trees. Visit to drink in the peaceful atmosphere.
