Built in 1818, Gun Hill was the home to an intricate series of signal stations with a two-part purpose. These stations signaled lights to each other whenever a ship approached the island to verify whether it was friend or foe. The second purpose, however, was to signal the island of slave rebellions.
Barbados National Trust currently maintains the landmark and maintains a collection of military memorabilia. Scenic views from atop the hill look over the island, or visitors can enjoy the local architecture of the military fort and climb the tower. It's all in a day's fun.
