Horse Races have been a Caribbean pastime since 1845 when the islands were under British rule. Today, the tradition is still a part of the local scene at Garrison Savannah, one of the oldest race tracks in the Americas.
Located just outside of Bridgetown, this race track contains 11 furlongs for races of varying length. Gambling and fun go hand-in-hand with moderate starting bets. Catering more towards locals than tourists, the grounds of this outdoor activity are worn but well-loved.
Races occur almost every weekend, and the track also hosts the annual Barbados Triple Crown series. Follow some locals after the race to experience some of the tastiest vendor treats.
