Rated by "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" as one of the ten best beaches of the world, Crane Beach is worth a visit. It was originally a harbor, and a reef still provides some shelter so it's an easier place to swim than many local beaches. The consistent waves in the area make it a magnet for boogie boarders.
The 'crane' in the name of the beach isn't a reference to the bird but to a large clifftop crane that was used to load and unload ships. If you're lucky, the passenger lift may be working so that you won't have to scramble down the rough staircase to enjoy the glorious sandy beach.
