Considered by many to be one of the world’s best museums, the Kunsthistorisches collection is absolutely overwhelming, and includes a wide range of art spanning from Egyptian, Greek and Roman artifacts to famous European paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. When you realize that this is the collection of the Habsburgs (that dates back hundreds of years), it only makes sense how so many amazing pieces came to be housed in this one (very elaborate) building. It is difficult to name just a few stand-out pieces, but the paintings include those done by Caravaggio, Titian, and Rubens, and the Greek and Roman exhibit alone showcases about 2500 works on permanent display. It would be too easy to take an entire day to see the whole thing, so if you’re short on time make sure to prioritize what you see before your visit. Or, break it up into two visits. Either way, you’ll be glad you made time for this amazing museum.
