Millennia-Old Traditions

If you really want to appreciate Australia's soul, you need to become acquainted with the island-continent's Aboriginal culture: its deepest human story, one ingrained into the landscape from the Northern Territory to Tasmania across tens of thousands of years. Perth gives you a fabulous venue for learning a little of this story at the Aboriginal Art Gallery in Kings Park, which features indigenous artists from all over Australia in a perch magnificently surveying the city. You'll see traditional techniques and motifs here, for sure, but the gallery's artists--many of whom work here and engage with visitors--also use contemporary imagery and media to express themselves.
