Once this downtown thoroughfare was named, with exceptional blandness, Corporation Lane. In 2004, though, the Melbourne City Council rebranded it ACDC Lane as a tribute to the Australian hard-rock band AC/DC, whose strong connections to Melbourne include filming the music video for "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" on the rear of a flatbed truck rolling down Swanston Street. (Remember the bagpipes? If you don't, time to hit YouTube.) ACDC Lane famously plays host to Cherry Bar, one of Melbourne's better-known rock clubs.
