The Great "Haystack"

In striking contrast to the more typical Aruban flats that surround it, Hooiberg proudly rears its quartz-diorite cone into the Caribbean skies: an isolated 540-odd-feet peak so dramatically prominent and centrally located that it's commonly mistaken for Aruba's high point, though the Jamanota hill over in Arikok National Park has a few dozen feet on it.

Reach the impressive panorama from the summit of Hooiberg by mounting the nearly 600 steps that famously ascend its brushy slopes, interrupted partway up by an inviting gazebo.
