It is difficult to over-praise the Teatro Colón - the performances, the acoustics and the architecture make it the pride of Buenos Aires. More than that, this opera house is considered to be among the best in the world, on par with any found in Europe or North America. If you enjoy opera, attending a performance must be on your list of places to go during your visit to the city. Restored and renovated, the house was reopened in 2010, but it still retains the classic gilt, mirrors and chandeliers that you would expect from its 1908 origin. Tours are available, and you may be able to get a free ticket to attend a rehearsal. Even so, if you possibly can, dress up in your tux or wear your poshest dress and enjoy an evening's performance you won't forget.
