Yes, it is a little touristy, but it's still a beautiful, charming part of the city. The neighborhood (barrio) retains its Old World architecture - specifically Genoa, Italy -- and is designed for strolling and shopping. Be sure to go to Caminito, the artists' market street by the river. The area is known for its many tango clubs, with dinner/show packages. If you're not willing to invest the time and/or money, you can always have a photograph taken with a tango dancer on the street. Of course, there are many, many Italian restaurants, cafes and taverns.
