Buenos Aires values creativity and encourages its people to take part in the arts. The Casa de la Cultura, originally built as a mansion for the owner of one of the country's largest newspaper (La Presna), has been re-purposed as a sort of community center that offers classes, artists' studios and places for classes. This wonderful Beaux Artes building is located in the middle of large park and, in itself, is worth visiting just for its architecture. More than that, however, is what may be happening at the Casa de la Cultura, from exhibitions of theater and dance to magic shows and even the occasional circus performances. You'll never know what's going on there until you show up.
