A Treasure Trove of Modern Art

One of the great gems in this beautiful city is one of the most forward-looking art museums. With a collection of more than 7,000 works - and growing - it includes paintings, sculptures, instillations and new media from throughout the region. The museum is also known for its strong program of temporary exhibitions featuring emerging artists in Latin America. Established in 1956 by a seemingly unlikely partnership of Pablo Curatella Manes, a diplomat, and Rafael Squirru, an art critic and poet, MAMBA (Museo de Arte Moderno) should not be confused with MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamicano de Buenos Aires) - although you should go there, too. Large and constantly expanding, MAMBA is truly a must-see museum in Buenos Aires.
